About Opilogue

Opiblogue is a unique BLOG for the display of OPI(nions) in (dia)LOGUE form. Hence the coinage, Opilogue). The intention is to create a setting for a surreal interactive discourse on issues that affect Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.

Nigeria is a blessed country. A worn-out cliche, no doubt, but it needs being repeated though without the intention of putting off the visitor to this site. We have virtually everything a country can wish for. Good climate, wide expanse of arable land, enormous mineral resources especially oil, and a huge population of about 140 million, the largest concentration of black people in the whole world. We are adventurous, bold and daring. We talk a lot. We write a lot. We dream a lot. And, wait for this, we suffer a lot because of poor political leadership.

In this blog I have decided not to go the conventional way of commenting on and analysing issues but allowing the characters in the dialogue to exchange views, counter views, banters, back slaps and even pseudo jabs on matters germaine to the larger interest of their community, nation or the world at large. No issue is too small or too big to discuss here. What you will discover most often is that the issues are mainly Nigerian, nay African, but given a universal touch. Or a universal issue given a distinctly African flavour.

The main characteristic of opilogue, therefore, is the ease with which an issue can be effectively handled through the use of sardonic humour. Hence the preponderance of satires, comedies and tragi-comedies to coat the bitter pills of truth for easy swallow. So if you come across a place called "Niagara" on this site know that it has nothing to do with the Niagara Falls in Canada but an imaginary country that sounds and smells like Nigeria.
